SONIC IDENTITY / STRATEGY, ASSETS AND CONTROL
01 / DECISION
A sonic identity is a governed system of audible choices that helps a brand behave consistently where sound has a useful role. It may include an audio mark, a small family of motifs, a music language, interface cues, spoken-brand principles and rules for silence. A campaign track, a licensed song, hold music and a sonic logo can each belong to that system, but none is the whole system by itself. The first decision is therefore not whether the brand prefers electronic, orchestral or acoustic music. It is what listeners should understand, which moments deserve sound and which actions must remain clear without it.
The commission begins with an authorised inventory. We record brands and sub-brands, markets, languages, product surfaces, advertising formats, social and film use, podcasts, events, stores, telephony, voice interfaces, apps, vehicles or devices, together with current assets, owners, suppliers, licences and known complaints. Each touchpoint has a different duration, playback environment, attention level and technical constraint. A three-second film endboard, a one-second confirmation cue and a thirty-minute retail environment cannot responsibly share one undifferentiated master.
Not every organisation needs an audio logo. A brand with rare audio exposure, no rollout owner or an unstable strategy may first need a sound-use policy, a cleanup of licensed music or a narrow interface vocabulary. Creating a mnemonic simply because competitors have one can add noise without creating meaning. NobleJackal records that decision openly: full identity, limited sound system, channel-specific kit, discovery phase only or no new branded sound at present.
The written proposal fixes the real unit of work. It names the included brands, audiences, locales, touchpoints, concepts, asset families, versions, review rounds, research, production, performers, technical formats, rights, implementation support and handover. Pricing upon request does not create an unlimited music catalogue or permanent production retainer. Film production, brand strategy, voice casting, AI avatar work, app or web development, spatial installation, media buying, trademark work and continuing content production remain separate unless expressly included.
State the recognition, orientation, feedback, transition or atmosphere problem sound is expected to address.
Name every commissioned channel, duration, device, environment, language, owner and current asset.
Record moments where sound would distract, expose private use, compete with speech or impair access.
Fix assets, variants, rights, production responsibility, reviews, implementation and exclusions before composition begins.
02 / LISTENING
The strategy stage listens before it composes. We examine approved brand positioning, audience language, category conventions, product behaviour, voice and visual rhythm, existing films, interfaces and environments. We also separate useful inherited sound from accidental habit: a familiar startup cue may have operational value even when no one documented it, while a popular stock track may have no ownership or continuity value at all. Observations are labelled as confirmed, inferred or still unknown.
A category listening audit is not a playlist of fashionable references. It maps recurring tempos, intervals, timbres, voices, production treatments, energy curves and functional cues across relevant competitors and adjacent cultures. The point is to identify crowded conventions, useful expectations and areas where distinction is possible without becoming inappropriate or unusable. Source, territory, date and rights status are recorded. Competitor audio is evidence about the category, never material to imitate.
Candidate territories turn strategic language into audible constraints. Instead of asking for sound that is merely ‘premium’, ‘innovative’ or ‘human’, the brief explains the behaviour behind those words: restrained rather than empty, precise rather than cold, warm without sentimentality, confident without alarm, modern without copying a current genre. Each territory names suitable and unsuitable rhythm, density, register, instrumentation, voice treatment, silence and motion relationships. It also states what would contradict the brand.
Research can help a decision, but it must match the question. Qualitative listening can reveal interpretation, annoyance, cultural association and fit. Structured comparison can test distinction or preference under controlled conditions. Recognition requires repeated exposure and a defined sample; it cannot be inferred from an internal workshop. Participants, recruitment, incentives, facilities and specialist research platforms are separate costs unless included. A positive reaction in one room is not evidence of global memorability.
Review what already plays, where it came from, who owns it and whether listeners depend on it.
Record conventions and collisions by market without copying a competitor’s melody, production or claims.
Convert positioning into specific audible behaviours, constraints, references and rejection criteria.
Match workshops, expert review and audience research to the claim they can actually support.
03 / SYSTEM
The audio mark is the shortest concentrated expression of the system, not a miniature song expected to do every job. Its notes, rhythm, contour, texture or sound gesture may generate longer forms, transitions and interface cues, but only where that relationship improves coherence. We explore alternatives against the agreed territory and test them in realistic contexts rather than approving an isolated studio playback at excessive volume.
A wider system may include a core motif, brand theme, short and long edits, stings, transitions, beds, stems, UI families, product cues and motion synchronisation principles. The proposal identifies which assets are original compositions, which are adaptations and which rely on licensed material. A family should survive different durations and production partners without becoming a set of near-identical files. Variation rules define what can change—tempo, arrangement, instrumentation, intensity, voice or ending—and what must remain recognisable.
Functional interface sound has another duty: it must communicate state. Success, warning, error, arrival, progress and confirmation cues require distinct meanings, appropriate urgency and a clear relationship to the user action. The same sound must not mean success in one flow and failure in another. Platform conventions, device speakers, latency, repetition and mute settings matter. Audible feedback complements visible and, where appropriate, haptic feedback; it must not become the only route to understanding an essential state.
Rights are designed alongside the sound. The register distinguishes composition, lyrics, master recording, performance, voice, samples, software instruments, libraries, fonts in animated delivery, production files and third-party material. It names authors, performers, owners, permitted media, territory, term, exclusivity, adaptation, sublicensing and delivery of stems or sessions. ‘Full rights’ is not accepted as a useful specification. Any generative-audio or synthetic-voice contribution requires written approval, a record of the provider terms and source provenance, and permission from the person whose voice is used; impersonation and unapproved voice cloning are excluded. Legal clearance, trademark searches and registrations are performed by qualified advisers and offices, not implied by creative delivery.
Approve the concentrated mark together with the exact variants and contexts required by the commission.
Define themes, edits, beds, stems, transitions and synchronisation rules only where they are commissioned.
Assign stable meanings, urgency and repetition limits to product or interface cues.
Trace every creative and technical ingredient to a named source, owner, permission and use boundary.
04 / RELEASE
Delivery begins with a channel matrix, not a folder labelled final. Every asset is tied to a purpose, version, duration, mix, loudness approach, sample rate, bit depth, channel configuration, codec, loop behaviour, fade, metadata, filename and destination. The production master is preserved separately from distribution derivatives. Loudness and peak requirements differ between broadcast, streaming, social, telephony, apps, installations and embedded web; there is no single master that is automatically correct everywhere.
Implementation is tested on representative playback conditions. Phone and laptop speakers, headphones, noisy spaces, quiet rooms, mono fold-down, compressed streams, weak connections and platform processing can expose harsh transients, masked notes, clicks, broken loops or speech competition that studio monitors conceal. Acceptance records the device, file, build, environment and observation. A successful export or upload does not prove that the right sound plays at the right moment.
Web and app sound requires deliberate control. Brand audio should not ambush a visitor. On the web, playback is initiated by a clear user action unless a narrowly documented exception satisfies the applicable accessibility and platform rules; users can pause, stop or mute it. Prerecorded audio carrying information needs an equivalent alternative, and speech must remain intelligible over background sound. Functional cues are paired with visual text or state, because a muted device, hearing difference or noisy environment must not block the task.
Technical QA checks duration, leading and trailing silence, phase, clipping, true peak, loudness measurement where applicable, channel order, sample rate, bit depth, codec, metadata, seamless loops, filename, checksum and correspondence with the approved creative version. Interactive implementations also test trigger logic, latency, concurrency, interruption, focus, reduced-motion or sound settings and failure behaviour. Each destination receives its own pass/fail record and unresolved limitations.
Keep archival masters distinct from the exact broadcast, product, web, social, telephony or venue files.
Listen under the devices, compression, noise and interaction conditions the audience will actually encounter.
Avoid surprise playback, provide controls and alternatives, and never use sound as the sole essential signal.
Tie each live trigger and destination to the approved asset, technical result, limitation and owner.
05 / GOVERNANCE
The sonic guidelines explain purpose before preference. They show the system’s principles, approved assets, protected elements, allowable adaptations, prohibited uses, voice and music relationships, silence rules, interface meanings, motion relationships, accessibility requirements, technical specifications and approval routes. Examples include appropriate and inappropriate use without pretending that a document can anticipate every future channel.
An asset register carries the operational truth. It records identifiers, versions, hashes, owners, rights, territories, terms, source sessions, masters, derivatives, languages, destinations, release dates and retirement status. External agencies and production partners receive the files and permissions needed for their task, not an unlabelled archive. Changes create a new version and decision record; an old campaign edit must not quietly replace the canonical mark.
Acceptance is observable but does not manufacture an audience result. NobleJackal can verify that the approved files match the selected concept, pass the written technical checks, appear in the named touchpoints, preserve the specified relationships and arrive with the agreed rights and documentation. Recognition, memory, preference and emotional association require properly designed research and exposure over time. Trademark registrability depends on jurisdiction and legal examination.
Handover names the client owner, source locations, access route, supplier responsibilities, open licences, renewal dates, unresolved risks and future change process. Ongoing composition, campaign adaptation, localisation, voice recording, implementation support, monitoring and research continue only if the proposal states a term and capacity. None of the standards or platform sources cited below describes NobleJackal’s service or endorses it. They support individual legal, technical or accessibility principles; they do not prove awards, recognition, reach, ranking, AI citation, leads, sales or revenue.
Explain the creative logic, stable elements, adaptations, silence, access rules and approval route.
Keep source, master, derivative, owner, rights, destination and retirement state reconstructable.
Verify agreed creative, technical, implementation and documentation criteria without inventing audience impact.
Transfer sources, permissions, owners, risks and change rules so the system can survive new suppliers.

BUYER QUESTIONS
Pricing is supplied upon request after the brands, markets, languages, touchpoints, assets, variants, research, production, performers, rights, technical masters, implementation support, reviews and handover are known. The proposal names exactly what is included. Music and sample licences, performers, studios, research participants, platforms, legal or trademark work, app or web development, installations and ongoing production are separate unless expressly listed.
No. An audio mark or jingle may be one asset. A sonic identity defines the wider audible behaviour of the brand: strategic territory, motifs, music relationships, interface meanings, voice principles, silence, adaptations, technical use and governance. Some organisations need only a narrow channel kit or no new audio mark. The discovery decision should precede composition.
The written rights schedule must distinguish composition, lyrics, master recording, performances, voice, samples, libraries, sessions and adaptations. It states owners, media, territory, term, exclusivity, sublicensing and source-file delivery. NobleJackal does not use the phrase ‘full rights’ as a substitute for those facts. Qualified legal advisers handle clearance, registrability and filing opinions.
The commissioned system may include an audio mark family, themes, edits, beds, stems, transitions, interface cues, motion rules, technical masters, derivatives, guidelines and an asset register. Each destination receives a specified file and playback check. A WAV file is not a rollout: app, web, film, venue, telephony and campaign implementation are included only where the proposal names them.
No. We can verify the agreed creative process, file set, rights record, technical checks, named implementations and handover. Recognition, memory, preference and emotional response require suitable research and exposure; trademark decisions belong to the relevant authority and legal process. Platform approval, accessibility conformance, reach, ranking, AI mention or citation, leads, sales and revenue are not guaranteed.
